The Reel Can was founded by our publisher, film management consultant and journalist Joel Schulz. Our mandate is to be the leading voice for Canadian film, television, and stage professionals. Joel is the current Chair of the SAIT Polytechnic Film and Video Production Advisory Board (SAIT Film School).

Joel Schulz Biography

Joel brings over four decades of broadcast, telecommunications, production, and journalism experience to the table. Most recently he was Managing Editor of Alberta Buzz. Joel has undergraduate credentials in Radio and Television Broadcasting and a graduate degree in Project Management. Currently Joel chairs the Advisory Committee of the film school at SAIT Polytechnic, Western Canada’s premiere TV and film production school.

Starting as a cameraman and war correspondent for CBC, Joel oversaw the founding of many broadcast organizations, managed telecommunications and broadcast projects, some with budgets exceeding $100 million, and written as a freelance journalist for many publications.

Shannon Buckley Biography

While still relatively new to the industry, Shannon brings her passion for writing to the magazine. She is a graduate of the University of Calgary film program, with a double major in Film Studies and Communications. Shannon also works as a 1st Assistant Director in the local film industry.
